The surrounding area

The Hotel stands in the very heart of the monumental area of Santiago de Compostela

Hotel Rua Villar, just a few metres from the Cathedral and close to the Platerías Square, also known as the “Fountain of the Horses”. The fountain was built in 1759, and is in front of the staircase that leads to the emblematic Quintana Square.

The Hotel is at the start of the Rúa del Villar, a street that leads to the only Romanesque doorway still preserved in the Cathedral. The Rúa del Villar is mentioned in Mediaeval texts, in which it was referred to as the Valle Milvorum or Vilare Milvorum. Its name originally referred to a small village that stood close to the Cathedral, which would later become one of the main centres of population in what we know today as Compostela’s Monumental Zone.
